An exceptional good fortune of the people of our day, an unparalleled spiritual event takes place during the VESAK season of 2011. Which marks the 2600th Anniversary of the attainment of Supreme Enlightenment by Ascetic Siddhartha.

While we turn to celebrate this unprecedented spiritual moment through pageant, spectacle, decorations, illuminations, etc. on a scale that has not been seen before, the International Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi Buddhist Film Festival Organization has taken a highly praiseworthy initiative to spread the holy and serene message of the Buddha to the global community through the medium of Cinema, which has entrenched itself as the most favored form of entertainment of today’s world.

As visualized by the Organization our blessed isle, will be transformed into the Centre of world’s Buddhist Cinema in the sacred year of 2011. The global community will turn towards Sri Lanka for the blessings of the teachings of the Compassionate Buddha, couched in the Cinema format.
This I am quite certain is the highest gift we in Sri Lanka, will be able to endow upon the world.
