The concept of introducing the advancement in Information Technology to enhance the celebration of Vesak was tried out for the first time at the VESAK 2009 Festival.

ICTA - Information & Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka in association with the Nenasala Network spread across the country, actively promoted the concept, opening out tremendous opportunities to those interested in creative presentations using the latest advancements in technology.

e-Vesak card competition was launched islandwide through the Nenasala Network and with the print media sponsorship of ‘Rivira’ and ‘Nation’ newspapers and with ‘Derana’ as the television media sponsor.

Equally the process of creating short films, utilizing the mobile phone was introduced to Sri Lanka for the first time at this Festival. This too was enthusiastically received, although the time provided for submission of entries was limited to a few weeks, indicating the vast potential in this field for the future.
