An unprecedented Film Festival on Buddhist themes will take place in association with the Vesak Festival 2010.

The Vesak Festival this year takes on a tremendous significance. 2011 makes the 2600th anniversary of the attainment of Supreme Enlightenment by Ascetic Siddhartha. The whole world (Buddhist and non-Buddhist) will celebrate this event as a high spiritual achievement of the whole mankind. Plans are ready to make Sri Lanka the Centre of Buddhist Cinema during Vesak 2011.

A special highlight of the activities of 2011 will be the launching of an epic film about Siddhartha Gautama. The script of the film has been finalized and preliminary arrangements have already been made to initiate the production of this film, scripted by two outstanding Sri Lankan writers/scholars.

The International Buddhist Film Festival this year will be held on May 28, 29 and 30 as a preamble to the global events of 2011.
