Vesak commemorates the birth, enlightenment (nirvana), and the passing (parinibbana) of Gautama Buddha. It is a religious and cultural festival in Sri Lanka that is generally during the full moon in the month of May.
The Light of Asia Foundation, a non-profit organization that focuses on the advancement of Buddhism throughout the world by using audiovisual media, will be hosting ‘Vesak 2010’. This International Buddhist Film Festival, in collaboration with the National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka, will exhibit the true principles of Buddhism through visual media.
‘Vesak 2010’ will present short, feature, documentary, animated, and mobile films; exhibit Buddhist art and photography, and animated pandals; and hold workshops on ‘Buddhism and Film Making’.
